Wow, guess what? Detroit was one of only four cities selected for the  Pepsi’s #TheRecipe tour. In mid-February Angela Simmons (Rev Run of Run DMC’s daughter) and actor Mack Wilds (The Wire) hosted the event at the Garden Theater in Midtown, Detroit.

The day of, at first it was the same-old same-old for me. I was sitting at my cubicle at work doing my “online and digital communications” when the LED flash went off on my phone. My girl Kay messaged me about the event and I had to go because I mean, not only was this event in my neighborhood, but Angela Simmons is my favorite young woman doing her thing. Lol. Everybody who is close to me knows that I admire Angela Simmons for her style, grind, and fitness lifestyle.

So I registered for the event and made my way to the event shortly after work.

#TheRecipe was a panel discussion with innovators who are using their recipe for success to the change and inspire an audience of all ages. The Detroit panel featured: Tommey Walker of Detroit Vs. Everybody, Samantha White of Shakespeare in Detroit, former Detroit Lions player Joique Bell, and Phil Black of The Manhood Project. They shared much about their journey to success and failures too though, giving their best advice to motivate and be real with the audience of future Detroit Movers and Shakers.

To everyone’s surprise, at the end of the event the hosts and all the honorees were also awarded Spirit of Detroit awards by councilwoman Mary Sheffield.

Andddd. I got to get a quick picture too:] My day was made then lol! Angela was so cool and down to earth.

Stay tuned on The Downtown Paige to see what other popping events have been happening in the area.
