Spectacles lives on in Zana Smith’s new space

By January 8, 2018 No Comments

Zana Smith opened Spectacles, her chic and funky fashion boutique, in downtown Detroit in 1984. In 2014, after 30 successful years of business, her landlord informed her that the building had been sold to the Lear Corp. and that she had to vacate the premises. After evaluating an uprising from her customers and a little research on Zana and Spectacles, Lear decided Zana was a perfect fit for its future plans. She was not only asked to stay, but Lear refurbished her store (along with the rest of the building) and offered her a long-term lease at a much better rate. Spectacles re-opened last month in time to catch the end of the Christmas shopping season. “I’m very happy and optimistic,” Zana says. “We’re still in the construction zone, though, as Dan Gilbert begins the work on Detroit’s tallest building. I expect to see a lot of hard hats and construction boots in the future, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a successful final outcome.”
