The Social Metro: Fall 2016 Trends

As summer winds down and Fall 2016 is on the horizon, the change in seasons welcomes a change in fashions. In fashion, change is the only constant. It may be subtle or groundbreaking, but it’s the one inevitable in an industry dependent on reinvention. Designers strive season after season to engage and excite our imaginations and rethink how we dress. It fuels our insatiable curiosity for what’s next and flames their desire to deliver on the dreams fashion promises. So it’s now time to readjust your eye to the season’s over-the-top glamour, exaggerated silhouettes and street smart chic.

With all these heady thoughts swirling like leaves in the wind, be your own agent of change and let your own unique style lead the way.

Many of our key Fall 2016 trends were featured in the Detroit Institute of Arts/Founder’s Junior Council fashion extravaganza “Fash Bash” on August 11th again curated by Neiman Marcus Senior Vice President and Fashion Director, Ken Downing. Some of our favorite designers featured on the runway were Roberto Cavalli, Rosie Assoulin, Naeem Khan, Monique Lhullier, J Mendel, Brandon Sun, & Carolina Herrera, along with Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani, John Varvatos, Gucci, Prada, Valentino, Judith Leiber, Chanel, Chloe, Stella McCartney, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, The Row, Marni, Brunello Cucinelli, Oscar de la Renta, St. John, Etro, Akris Punto, Dries Van Noten which are all carried at Neiman Marcus at the Somerset Collection. For Women

Ripe Berry Shades: Raspberry, mulberry & cranberry – chic cherry, passionate plum & regal Bordeaux.

Chokers: Delicate or daring – demure or dramatic – focus on these face framers.

Everything Velvet: Crushed, panné or silk – worn by royals and rock stars alike.

Top-Handle Handbags: Top notch, top drawer – should be top of mind for Fall 2016

Bold Gold & High Shine Metallics: Mega-watt – full voltage – electrifying – shield your eyes!

Skirts The Move: Skirts that flirt – swish that sways – nights & days.

Fall Florals: Incorporating nature’s blooms that knows no season.

The Adorned Shoe: Embellished, embroidered & emblazoned – highly adored and highly adorned!

The New Bomber: The bomber is the new biker.

The Dramatic Eye: Those dark beauties of yours will set hearts aflutter!

For Men

Browns: Camel to whiskey – chestnut to cordovan – caramel to chocolate.

Attitude Tees: Speaking up, throwing shade & giving attitude!

British Accents: Male pattern boldness in plaids, checks & tweeds.

Everything Velvet: Haute for her – Hot for him!

Statement Topcoats: Weather or not! The first layer people see is the last layer you put on.

70’s Swagger: Think Mick Jagger swagger with embellishment, flash and flares.

Suede & Shearling Outerwear: The textural necessity – lush, plush and definitely luxurious.

Trainers: Pick up those “kicks!” The sneaker trend shows no signs of stopping.
