NBA player Austin James Rivers, who plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, popped into the Robert Kidd Gallery in Birmingham last week to purchase a Martin Luther KingJr. mug shot for his new home in L.A. “What a nice kid,” says Robert Kidd owner Gerard Marti. “And the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. His dad is Glenn Anton “Doc” Rivers, a former player who is now coach for the Los Angeles Clippers. Wow, $11 million. I should have been born taller,” Marti joked about the younger Rivers’ salary. Several ball players have visited Robert Kidd Gallery to make purchases from Marti’s mugshot series, including Utah Jazz’ Ekpe Udoh and Dallas Maverick Javale McGee.
