here were three apparent things guests had in mind when they attended Friday night’s Leaders for Kids Summer Recess bash – they came looking stylishly splendid, they came to party hard, and most importantly, they came to raise money toward the health and wellness of Metro Detroit children. A sold-out crowd of 400 fashionable Metro Detroiters filled the posh Waterview Loft on the Detroit Riverfront for one of the best parties of the summer.
Leaders for Kids is an Advisory Board of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation with a mission to raise funds for pediatric medical research, education and community benefit programs.
“I’m particularly proud of this event because the crowd is not only diverse, but they are very enthusiastic and very supportive,” says Lawrence Burns, CEO of CHMF. “This event doesn’t look like your typical society charity events. It’s fun. It’s forward. It’s contemporary. It raises awareness and funds for the needs of children.”
The party started with a cocktail hour in the sleek conservatory and on the terrace of the Waterview Lofts. With an impeccable service staff on hand, guests enjoyed tasty fare from assorted food stations and a couple open premium bars. After an hour or so, the party moved upstairs to the contemporary loft with its floor to ceiling windows and magnificent views.
The room was set in sections with luxurious white leather sofa pits featuring bottle service. Models, raffles, deejays and percussionists added saucy flavor to the event. One-hundred percent of proceeds from Summer Recess 2018 will support the Leaders for Kids endowment at Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation. The organization has raised over $600,000 to date. Ticket price was $150 per person with a special ticket price, $75, for supporters ages 21-30.
“We’re encouraging young people to join us in our mission,” says Leaders for Kids board member Peter Ginopolis. “We’re excited to see what they will do in the future as we work together for better health and wellness of our children. We just like to have a good time in the process.”
