Kudos to jazz singer Kimmie Horne who hosted a very successful music fest during the weekend with more than 10,000 people in attendance at the Southfield Municipal Campus. The Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival, sponsored by Varsity Lincoln, featured splendid performances from Straight Ahead, Kathy Kosins, Penny Wells, Shelia Landis, Tricia Jones, Amy Lee, music director Al McKenzie, with an amazing finale by Kimmie herself. There was a very tender moment when Kimmie came out into the audience and dedicated a song to her mom, Kay Finley. Legendary jazz singer Ursula Walker was presented with the Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and all proceeds from the event were donated to The Ronald McDonald House Detroit.

Pappy vs. Weller Blind Tasting
Join us Saturday, December 22nd for the most popular in our series of Exclusive Whiskey Tastings! The goal of this event is to taste four whiskies in a blind but controlled fashion, and have a spirited discussion about them.
Did you know Pappy Van Winkle and Weller Whiskies all come from the Sazerac owned Buffalo Trace Distillery? This month, we compare and contrast very similar whiskies with very different price points:
Name Age Proof Mashbill Distillery
- Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year 107 Wheated Buffalo Trace
- Weller Antique 7-8 Year 107 Wheated Buffalo Trace
- Van Winkle Special Reserve “Lot B” 12 Year 90.4 Wheated Buffalo Trace
- Weller 12 12 Year 90 Wheated Buffalo Trace
We will start with a welcome pour of Weller Special Reserve, and move into a discussion about Pappy Van Winkle and the Buffalo Trace Distillery, followed by an examination of the whiskey flavor wheel and general whiskey tasting notes. We will then taste and discuss all four of these whiskies and they each will be revealed, with the intention of furthering your knowledge and understanding of these great whiskies.
The fine print: You must be 21 years old with valid identification to attend this class.
